A friend of mine on twitter @shannonpaul shared a link yesterday, to a blog article with the following title: «The Definitive, Absolute, Best, 100% Accurate Rules for Being a Social Media Expert (Or Not).»  At first I thought this was just another blog bragging about the authors eminent knowledge in Social Media. But was I being prejudgemental?

Like I have said before – I know a lot about Social Media, and know much about how to use this in the personal arena as well as the professional arena. But – I would never go to the step and call myself an «Expert», «Master» or «Guru» – I prefer to call myself an Social Media Apprentice – for quite obvious reasons. I believe that the minute you think you know all there is to know about a topic, you’ve lost! Because you put yourself in a state of mind that tells you that you know all there is to know, and stop challenging yourself and pushing yourself everyday. I’m not saying this is the case for all those Social Media experts out there, but this is I principle I abide by, and that’s that.
I consider myself an apprentice in this fast developing (social media) world, and I am learning something new every single day.

But still, there is amazing to notice how many experts and gurus it’s out there. Well – it’s their business, and I guess they have good reasons and strong supporting arguments for their choice. :-)

But please – read read the article and leave a comment here with your thoughts on the topic.

Are you a Social Media Expert? Do you disagree with me? Let me know.

And those were my points exactly. We’re merely “apprentices,” as you call us, of social media. Always learning from the world around us, never quite mastering – because who’d want to? Makes us stale to claim domination and eminence. And there’s no such thing as a “social media expert,” so we should all stop pretending we are one!

Thanks for linking me! I’m honored.
