Like I have written in my previous posts, I consider myself a Social Media Apprentice and I’m reading and doing research on the topic as much as I can. In my job as an art director I have clients that may be ready to take the next step in communication and start using Social Media actively.

The success and pervasiveness of Social Networks such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter, and numerous others have led to an increased awareness inside of companies to the power and reach of Social Media. The challenge companies face is that they need to make sure they do it right. They need to insure customers know their experience is unique, that their data (content) is protected, and that they are valued as a customer. Social Media technologies can help facilitate this process and helps lead to an authentic experience.

Chris Brogan posted an article today about the topic: Social Media Is Not a Life Raft

When thinking about what social media is going to do for your business, please be wary of setting it up to be the salvation, the be-all, the life raft. It’s a set of tools, a strategy, and a handful of tactics. It’s not always appropriate. It’s not always the best thing in the world. But it’s not a guaranteed everything. {read the whole story here}

I agree with Chris – there are a lot of things to consider when it comes to putting your business out on the Social media platform, It requires a good understanding of SEO and SEM, and the company has to be prepared on getting both useful and interesting feedback and content from customers, but also there can be negative comments, that needs to be handled correctly. But most importantly – they need to be authentic in the community, and the content they publish.

Thinking Points:

  • What is – in your opinion – the best way to use twitter/social media to grow your business?
  • What are your experiences with companies that uses Social Media actively, and in your opinion – successfully?

Hope to hear from you,
thanks
