Up Close and Personal #3

UpCloseLolly2

This week I have a gift for you. I did a really good interview with a close and personal friend. I met her through twitter (that’s a given, right – hehe) and we have grown to become really close friends over time. I even met her in IRL in New York when I was over in the second week of July this year. I am truly facinated with the level of energy, intensity, passion and care she shows her surroundings, but also her way of thinking, ability to reflect on what’s being said in a quick and responsive way. She is intelligent, knowledgeable, interesting, endearing – and now I will let you know more up close and personal, the one and only – Lolly Daskal.

#1 – I know you are all about empowering and inspiring people and you have a real passion for it and many of our values are shaped in childhood.  What were some of your early role models?
Who inspired you?

Well i really didn’t have any role model growing up. my parents were not particularly healthy – They were holocaust survivors and they were dealing with their own demons. As for me, I had to learn it all by myself - I have learned through self educating and reading.  I do daily work on myself and books are my constant companion.
I always try to seek out the most  powerful minds and most cutting edge thoughts  that are out there and ask myself, can I apply this thought to myself, to my work, my life, or to my family? if I can – I do, if I can’t – I tend to forget it.

#2 – What kind of books do you read?
I read books on wealth, quantum physics, marketing, parenting, poetry, art,  managing money, and communication. I read everything that interests me.

#3 – A lot of successful people have had many challenges and some really crummy sections of their lives, but they they have learned  from those tough times and then they have built up from there. You have had many reverses. How do you deal with it, and what have you learned by those experiences?
LOLLY – I have had as many reverses as anybody else but I never look upon them as great reverses. I just look upon them as learning experiences. I love the idea that there is no such thing a failure, only feedback. Feedback just tells me that the particular direction that I am going is not a great direction so I need to do something different.

#4 – If you had to start all over again, if you had to go back to your twenties or early thirties and you could take some of the knowledge that you have now, what would be those three or four most important things you would want to take with you?

  1. The essential first step in your life  is to dare to dream. It all begins with a dream.
  2. The essential  second thing in your life is to imagine and concentrate on your most important activities and opportunities.
  3. The essential third thing I would say is, believe – our doubts and fears are our greatest stumbling blocks.
  4. The essential fourth thing is, get the inside right, and the outside will take care of itself.
    dream-imagine-believe-lead from within.

#5 – When people describe Lolly Daskal, the first thing they always comment is your passion – what are you passionate about and what advice do you offer for people to find their  passion?
I am passionate about many things, my life, my kids, my books, my paintings, paying it forward, charity, being of service, helping others, my work, my clients, my mission.
When people ask me how can they can find their passion, I simply tell them to be absolutely clear about who they are and what they want.
They should throw their whole heart into doing whatever they are doing. and be the very best that they can possibly be – never give up.
Those are words that I live by. Can there be any greater gift than to give yourself and others the gift of a passionate life? ……..No
